French expert: Karabakh independence from Azerbaijan must be recognized
The international community must recognize the independence of Karabakh from Azerbaijan, after which Karabakh must either become an independent state or part of Armenia, Fabrice Balanche, Lyon 2 University Professor and expert on Middle East and? Mediterranean told Armenian News ?ˆ“? NEWS.am.
"I don't know which form this may take: whether Karabakh will be a state within Armenia or an independent country. I don?ˆ™t know how, but the world must recognize the Karabakh?ˆ™s independence from Azerbaijan, and we must defend that land from Azerbaijani attacks," the Professor said.
He also said that last month several Armenian soldiers were killed on the border, which again comes to prove that Karabakh needs to be protected from Azerbaijan?ˆ™s aggressive policy. ?
Several days ago Professor Fabrice Balanche visited Karabakh?ˆ™s capital Stepanakert. The professor said he was impressed by the strength of the nation living there and their desire to defend their land for the sake of the liberty which cost each family the life of at least one member or relative during the conflict 25 years ago. ?
According to Fabrice Balanche, many people in the world have never heard about Karabakh and don't even know where it is, but Karabakh?ˆ™s example is very symbolic and can show much to the world. ?
"In the Middle East the Christians are persecuted by Islamist terrorists, while the Karabakh people showed that they can countervail. I think this is a very good example of such standoff," the Professor said.? ? source:
